Is My Motorcycle Equipped with a Factory Immobiliser?

Losing all your keys is stressful, but the first step to getting back on the road is knowing what kind of security system your bike uses. A Factory Immobilizer is an electronic security system that prevents the engine from starting unless it recognizes the unique digital code inside your key’s transponder chip.

Here are four easy ways to check if your bike has one:

1. The “All-Metal” Test

Think back to your previous keys.

  • No Immobilizer: If you previously used a simple, thin, all-metal key (no plastic head) to start the engine, your bike does not have an immobilizer.
  • Immobilizer: If your key always had a thick plastic head, it likely contains the electronic chip required to bypass the security system.

2. Check the Dashboard (Security Light)

Most modern bikes with immobilizers have a dedicated warning light on the instrument cluster.

  • Look for a small key icon or a red LED that flashes every few seconds when the ignition is turned off and the bike is parked.
  • If you see this “heartbeat” flash, your bike is equipped with an immobilizer.

3. The “Keyless” Rule

If your motorcycle uses a Smart Key system (you keep a remote fob in your pocket and turn a knob or press a button to start), your bike definitely has an immobilizer. These systems are 100% electronic.

4. Look for “Antenna” Branding

Check the plastic ring around your ignition keyhole. Manufacturers often label their immobilizer systems right there. Common names include:

  • Honda: H.I.S.S. (Honda Ignition Security System)
  • Yamaha: Y.I.S.S.
  • Kawasaki: K.I.S.S.
  • BMW/Ducati/KTM: Often labeled “Electronic Immobilizer” or simply have an antenna ring around the lock.

Still Unsure?

If you cannot find your owner’s manual, the most reliable way to check is to call your authorized dealer with your Chassis Number (VIN). They can confirm the exact specifications of your specific unit.

Soxxi Master can also help you to check. To proceed: Please send us a photo of your Log Card or your Brand/Model.
