“Can you make a key just from a photo?”
The short answer: Sometimes yes, sometimes no — it depends on the lock type and what information you have.
Let’s break it down for you.
✅ When We Can Make a Replacement Key
1. You have the key code
This is the best-case scenario. If you still have the original key code (usually printed on a small metal tag or sticker), and:
- The code series exists in our software, and
- We have the correct key blank available
Then yes — we can cut a new key by code, without needing the physical box. Quick and clean.
2. You have the box, and it uses a normal flat key
If there’s no code but the lock is a common flat key type (as seen on many top boxes and panniers from brands like GIVI, SHAD, KAPPA, etc.), and we have the blank in stock, we can still help.
But in this case, we need the physical box to decode the cuts from the lock itself.
⚠️ When It’s Not Worth Doing
3. The lock uses a laser-cut or dimple-cut key, and you have no code
These more complex key types are sometimes found on premium or security-style boxes. It is technically possible to decode and make a new key — but it’s a time-consuming process, and the cost often exceeds the price of a new lock or even a new box.
In these cases, we’ll let you know your options — and whether a replacement box or lock is a better idea.

Most people only think of getting a spare key after they’ve lost the original — but by then, the process becomes more difficult, costly, or even impossible.
